Prof. M.M.M. van Eechoud

Mireille van Eechoud, professor of Information Law, director of the Amsterdam Graduate School of Law (2019-2023) and from 2024 appointed as dean of the Amsterdam Law School.

She is a member of the Institute for Information Law's senior research staff. She teaches in various courses of the LLM programme Informatierecht. Among other roles, Van Eechoud is member of the Executive Committee of the ALAI ( Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale), chair of the Vereniging voor Auteursrecht (VVA, Dutch group of ALAI), and until July 2026  chair of the Dutch Minister of Justice's Advisory Committee on Copyright (Commissie Auteursrecht). In the past she chaired the University's Research Advisory Council ("UOC") and was member of the Advisory Board of the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Her research activities in the field of information law concern three key themes: the development of international and European intellectual property law (especially in the field of copyright and related rights, database law), the emerging European norms on freedom of information, access to public sector information & open data, open science and private international law aspects of information law.

At the moment she leads the Digital Transformation of Decision Making Initiative together with Prof. Natali Helberger and Prof. Joris van Hoboken. This faculty-wide research initiative is part of the legal research agenda 2019-2025 ('Sectorplan rechtsgeleerdheid'), Digital Legal Studies.
