Mr. L. Metikoš

Ljubiša Metikoš is a postdoctoral researcher at the RPA Human(e)AI and the Institute for Information Law. His current research focuses on AI-regulation, the impact of AI on legal decision-making and the automation of the legal profession. More broadly, he is interested in regulatory debates on AI, philosophical theories of procedural justice and citizens’ perception of procedural justice in AI-assisted legal decision-making, access to justice, explainability and human oversight requirements in the GDPR and the AI Act, and various other topics.

He has published articles on AI-regulation in both Dutch and international academic journals and he regularly engages in interdisciplinary and collaborative research using legal-doctrinal, legal-philosophical and legal-empirical methods.

Prior, Metikoš was a PhD Researcher at the RPA Human(e)AI, the Institute for Information Law, and the Paul Scholten Institute for Jurisprudence. He was also a Visiting Scholar at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society and the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. His dissertation is titled ‘Enabling Contestation, The Right to an Explanation of Judicial AI’. It examines the legal foundations of litigants’ right to receive explanations of assistive judicial AI-systems under AI Law, Data Protection Law, and Fundamental Rights Law across different legal systems. Moreover, in his dissertation, he also examines the practical operationalization of this right through the lens offered by theories of procedural justice and computer science debates on explainable AI.
