IViR Lunch Lecture: The Quantum Age by Prof. Chris Hoofnagle

In Law and Policy for the Quantum Age (Cambridge University Press 2022, open access), Simson Garfinkel and Chris Hoofnagle argue that quantum sensing—not a collapse of cryptography—is the most important near-term implication of quantum technologies.

In this talk, Hoofnagle will explain the landscape of quantum technologies, their strategic consequences, and likely scenarios for the quantum age.

Chris Jay Hoofnagle is professor of law in residence at UC Berkeley law and a visiting scholar at King’s College London Department of War Studies. Hoofnagle is a member of the American Law Institute and author of three books:

  • Cybersecurity in Context (forthcoming 2024 with Golden G. Richard III);
  • The Quantum Age (2022 with Simson Garfinkel);
  • FTC Privacy Law and Policy (2016).
