Quantum technologies are being pursued as a big promise of deep tech research. How does this endeavor relate to societal interests at play and the general public? And how does and can law help to shape the interface between quantum technologies and society?
Building on the research being carried out in the Research Group on Law and Governance of Quantum Technologies at the Institute for Information Law, this event will explore the role of law in the relation between law and quantum innovation. Joris van Hoboken will provide an introductory talk about some of the central issues and dynamics at the intersection of law and quantum technologies.
In particular, the talk will look at some of the ways in which law is called upon to structure the relationship between quantum tech research and society and the way in which speculation and securitization inform these processes. In the interactive part of the event, we will build on these starting points and discuss the main themes in more depth, explore connections with other areas of technology research, and reflect on research agendas and possibilities to engage the quantum ecosystem from a societal perspective in the future.
