From haute couture runways to fast fashion retail, the dazzling fashion world operates within a complex web of legal and regulatory frameworks. But what exactly constitutes “fashion law,” and what are the pivotal legal issues that shape this multi-trillion-dollar global industry? In this presentation, Professor Calboli discusses her recently co-edited Handbook of Fashion Law<\/a><\/em> to draw insights on the multifaceted legal landscape impacting the fashion sector.  In particular, she will delve into the critical application of intellectual property (IP) rights to protect fashion creations and the exceptions and limitations to this protection to promote innovation and competition in the industry. Besides IP rights, her presentation will touch upon the impact of regulatory frameworks on the fashion world, encompassing advertising standards, consumer protection laws, and the growing emphasis on sustainability and the circular economy. Finally, she will examine the transformative influence of new and emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, 3D printing, and e-commerce, and their legal implications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join us for a discussion that unpacks the multidisciplinary and multi-jurisdictional dimensions of this rapidly evolving field, offering a deeper understanding of the legal forces shaping fashion creation, distribution, and consumption in the 21st century. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irene Calboli <\/strong>is Regents Professor of Law at Texas A&M University and holds several honorary and visiting appointments, including at Singapore University of Social Sciences, the University of Geneva, SciencesPo Paris, the University of Melbourne, National Law School Delhi, Bocconi University, and the Royal University of Law and Economic of Cambodia. She is a past Fulbright-Hanken Distinguished Chair in Business and Economics in Finland and a Fulbright Specialist in Cambodia. Irene has published 12 books and more than 100 articles, book chapters, and policy reports. She regularly advises national governments and IP Offices and is an Expert for the World Intellectual Property Organization, the World Trade Organization, and the U.N. International Trade Center. She has designed and implemented programs for technical assistance as well as academic, professional, and executive training. She is an elected member of the International Academy of Comparative Law, the American Law Institute, and the European Law Institute, where she is the co-chair of the IP special interest group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
