Privacy law and policy, especially in the context of digital technologies, have reached a defining moment where important choices should be made. The proposed EU Digital Omnibus package amends the text of the GDPR as well as the AI Act in significant ways. These amendments raise questions with regard to their goal and relevance, the legislative process and \u2013 most importantly \u2013 their effect on human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s summer course will therefore maintain a variety of topics related to privacy law and policy, and will use the questions around the Digital Omnibus Act as a red thread throughout all of these. If you work with privacy-related themes, in the public or private sector, academia, or you\u2019re just interested in learning more of what is going on now in the field of privacy, this summer course is for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enrollment is limited to 25 participants.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Objectives of the course:<\/strong>
At the conclusion of the course, participants will:
(1) understand the latest developments in EU privacy law and how it relates to new regulatory fields, such as the AI Act, Data Act, Data Governance Act, Digital Services Act, etc.;
(2) be able to use these insights into their daily practice;
(3) have insight into how these critical areas of technology law and policy are likely to evolve in the future, and into the strategic and legal implications of these impending changes; and
(4) possess a set of course materials containing the most current and relevant legislative, judicial and regulatory documents in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Intended audience:<\/strong>
The course is aimed at lawyers, government officials, NGO staff, academics, PhD students and others who work in the areas of privacy and data protection law. The course is taught at the post-graduate level. Participants should have some prior knowledge of the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Timing and Location:
<\/strong>The course will extend over a five-day period from June 29 to July 3, 2026<\/strong> at the Roeterseiland campus \u2013 building P<\/a>, Plantage Muidergracht 24, 1018 TV, Amsterdam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Certificate:
<\/strong>At the close of the course, each participant will receive a Certificate indicating completion of the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IAPP and NOvA:<\/strong> Members of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) can obtain CPEs for attending the Annual IViR Summer Course on Privacy Law and Policy. Dutch legal professionals can also obtain NOvA credits (see here<\/a> for instructions).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
