Josephine Williams was selected as a 2019 UC Presidential Fellow by the University of California, Los Angeles after completing her JD at UCLA.  At UCLA Law she specialised in international and public interest law. Prior to her law studies, she was a State Department (foreign service) translator, and a federally certified court interpreter, specialising in simultaneous interpretation in courtrooms along the US-Mexico border as well as throughout California. She has interned for the Office of the United States Trade Representative and the European Commission’s Directorate General for Competition. Under the auspices of the fellowship at IvIR, she intends to study international approaches to AI and data governance, particularly under the lens of trade law.
