Productinformatie over levensmiddelen:
Etiketteringsvraagstukken naar Europees en Nederlands Recht,
English summary.
The subject
of this thesis is public law in the field of product
information concerning foodstuffs. It primarily studies the
labelling rules that have been imposed by the government on
producers of foodstuffs. Sometimes these rules also apply to
product information not printed on the label but displayed
at the point of sale or elsewhere.

voltooid?’, SEW Tijdschrift voor Europees en economisch
recht 1997-5, pp. 202-207.
This contribution discusses
public-law legislation in the area of foodstuffs. In
particular, it reviews the extent to which the integration
of European law has progressed. In addition to an overview
of the most important harmonization directives and
regulations (positive integration), it also describes the
jurisprudence of the Court of Justice with regard to the
free movement of foodstuffs in the EC (negative
integration).

'PDOs
and PGIs: geographical denominations protected by registration',
EFLR 1997, p. 366-375.
Regulation 2081/92 provides far-reaching protection for
geographical denominations and designations of origin for
specific agricultural products and foodstuffs, at Community
level. A register is kept by the European Commission of all
protected geographical indications (PGIs) and protected
designations of origin (PDOs). In the past four years, some
400 designations have been registered according to the
so-called 'simple' registration procedure. The first
products have also been registered according to the
'ordinary' procedure. The registration of certain products
such as Turrón d'Alicante and Feta has caused some concern.
Some member states do not agree with the protection of
certain designations. Within the EU, agreement could not be
reached on the question of which designations should be
considered 'generic names' or 'common names' which are
ineligible for protection according to Art. 3 of the
Regulation. The TRIP's agreement, realized in the context of
the WTO, contains a paragraph dedicated to the protection of
geographical indications. This protection is less
far-reaching than Regulation 2081/92.
