The Institute for Information Law is very proud to announce
that Stef van Gompel won the (shared)
first prize in the 2010 edition of the Faculty of Law publication prize for his
publication
Formalities in the Digital Era: An Obstacle or an Opportunity?
In 2011 the dean of the faculty introduced a
publication prize to highlight the very best publications and to stimulate the
research culture within the Faculty of Law. The prize winners were formally
congratulated during the Christmas celebration last December. Both first prize
winners will receive a contribution of 1000 euros to their research groups, to
be used for research activities such as visits to conferences.
Stef van Gompel's paper focuses on the
reintroduction of formalities in copyright law, as the arrival of the digital
era has created particular challenges in the field. These days, nearly everyone
can create and distribute creative content to a world-wide audience, while
standards for originality of authorship required for protection are unclear,
among other issues. Van Gompel's paper discusses the various arguments in favour
of and against a reintroduction of copyright formalities in the light of today's
digital realities. See also the
announcement on the Faculty's website. |
