THE MISSION OF THE INSTITUTE FOR INFORMATION LAW

The Institute for Information Law (IViR) studies legal aspects of the production, storage, distribution and use of information. Partly because of the influence of the explosive growth in information and communications technology, which is bringing the ‘information society’ ever closer, the research of the IViR is one of the spearheads of research of the Faculty of Law of the University of Amsterdam.
The Institute is now even one of the most important research institutes in this area in the world. The IViR is striving to consolidate and expand this position over the coming years, inter alia by attracting high calibre researchers from the Netherlands and abroad, to enable it to continue making an important contribution to the scientific research and the public debate on information law in all aspects – a discussion which will be of crucial importance for the further development of the information society.
